Cyclones Fall to Central City in Extra Innings

By: Sydney Reeves, a sophomore at Leigh High School

With the end of season near, the Cyclones are hoping to finish the year out strong with the few games that they have left. The Highway 91 Cyclones traveled to Central City for a tough game on Tuesday, September 29.

The Highway 91 Cyclones started the night off on a high note with the junior varsity game. The Cyclones played hard all throughout the game and pulled off the win with a score of 7-3.

The Cyclones then started the varsity game off strong, sticking right with Central City the whole game. Highway 91 punched Central City back every inning. Every time Central City scored, so did the Cyclones. The Cyclones fought enough the whole game to go into two extra innings. Both teams scored three in the first extra inning, but in the second extra inning the Cyclones were not able to score. Unfortunately, Central City scored one run allowing them to win. The final score of the game was 9-10.

Senior Kyleigh Rayback said, "I was happy with the way we competed throughout the game. At the end of the day it came down to execution, and we didn't execute some of the things that we should've. The game didn't end in our favor, but we aren't going to let that keep us down. We are going to restart our mindset and finish the season strong.”

This loss brings the Cyclone record to 15-11.  The Cyclones hope to finish the year on a good note by sweeping up a few more wins and making a district run.
