Cyclones Finish Third at East Husker Conference Tourney!

By: Korbee Wendt, a sophomore at Leigh High School

On Saturday, September 26, 2020, the Highway 91 Cyclones battled against North Bend, Tekamah-Herman, and West-Point-Beemer at the East Husker Conference softball tournament in Wisner, leaving with a 3rd place win!

In the first game of the day, they played Tekamah-Herman, who entered the matchup with a superior record.  The Cyclones lost the game with an ending score of 6-14. However, there were some positive takeaways, with the Cyclones having zero fielding errors.   They also achieved ten hits throughout the game from Abbey Pieper, Faith Indra, Sasha Perrin, Sophie Dvorak, and Kyleigh Rayback. But even with those 10 hits, the Cyclones were not able to capitalize and score any runs.

For the North Bend Central game, the Cyclones scored seven runs, which led them to a 7-2 win against the second Tiger team of the day. Leading the team that game with runs was Kyleigh Rayback, Cassandra Rayback, and Lilly Praest, each with 2.

With this win, the Cyclones qualified for the consolation game against West Point-Beemer, where they pulled off an outstanding 13-3 victory and ending the game early due to run rules.  In this game, almost every player scored a run, and they had no fielding errors.

As a result, the Cyclones ended the afternoon with 3rd place and a 2-1 record on the day.  This brings their season record to 15-10.
