Patriots Blow Out Madison
By: Kanyon Held, a junior at Leigh High School
It didn’t take the Patriot football team long to find their groove when they traveled to Madison on October 2 to take on the Dragons in a district game.
In the easy Patriot victory, Clarkson-Leigh put 30 points on the board in the first quarter alone. Eli Hays had 2 rushing touchdowns in the first quarter, and Carter Hanel added one. Sophomore Mason Whitmore also scored on a 25-yd interception.
The Patriots tacked on to their lead in the second quarter, scoring 34 more points. Carter Hanel, Eli Hays, Lance Paprocki, and Trevor Zulkoski all scored in the second quarter, making the score 64-0 Clarkson-Leigh going into halftime.
In the third quarter, the Patriots scored one more touchdown. Freshman Dylan Higby had a 65 yd rushing touchdown, and Whitmore ran in the two-point conversion afterwards.
In the fourth quarter, Madison scored three times against the reserves and put in two of the two-point conversions. They also forced a safety on the Patriots, making the final score 72-22 Patriots.
When asked about the game, assistant coach Eric Hays said, “This was a good “bounce-back” victory for the kids. We executed well on offense, and created some defensive takeaways on the defensive side of the ball.”
Senior Layne Krutz said, “We went and did our jobs like we were supposed to and we had fun doing it.”
