Eighth-Graders Visit NECC

By: Sage Fernau, a freshman at Leigh High School

The eighth graders visited Northeast Community College Wednesday afternoon, November 4.

Anathon Faust, admissions director, presented information about the college and led a question-and-answer session for the students. Two current college students, who are student ambassadors, also answered questions and shared their college experiences. The eighth graders then had a walking tour of the campus led by the college's student ambassadors. The students saw the different programs that the college offers.

Mrs. Hillen, LHS guidance counselor, led the eighth graders on their visit.

“This was a good experience for our junior high students.  For many, it was one of their first experiences on a college campus.  A highlight of the visit was getting to walk through the college dorm room and then eating lunch at the college cafeteria The eighth-graders took advantage of the opportunity to go back for seconds as many times as they could and get soft serve ice cream!”

Eighth-grader Brianne Kuhr stated, “Walking through the college was a fun experience. I thought it was cool that we could ask students from there questions. A fun part was being able to eat in the cafeteria and getting seconds.”

This college campus visit was one of the eight graders final projects of their six-week careers class. Jared Olson said, “It was fun going through the Northeast campus. I hope they accept me one day!”
