Girls BBall Hopes to Build On Last Year’s Success

By: Kennedy Settje, a junior at Leigh High School

The girls’ basketball team is looking forward to another great season! They had their first practice on November 16. Unfortunately, the Patriots jamboree game against Wynot was cancelled due to NSAA Covid-19 restrictions.

With this news, their first games of the season will take place on December 4th and 5th.

After having an untraditional, but very good summer of play, the Patriots know what they are capable of. The team motto of “A team that trusts each other is a team that lives with no regrets” has proved to be what this team stands by.

Senior, Cassidy Hoffman said, “I think this season is looking extremely promising, and we have potential to make it back to Lincoln again this year. We’ve been working hard in practice to get us ready for our first game. I can’t even express how excited we all are for this season to get underway. We’re just hoping for a full, healthy season!”

In addition to Hoffman, seniors include Alissa Kasik, Bailey Lemburg, Emily Loseke, Grace Baumert, Kayden Schumacher, and Kelsey Moore.

Juniors include Bailie Graybill, Faith Indra, Kennedy Settje, and Makenna Held

Sophomores are Deandrea Rivera, Ella Kappel, Jessica Hoffman, Korbee Wendt, and Sammy McEvoy

Freshmen include Cassi Rayback, Chloe Hanel, Gracie Eisenmann, and Tanyn Larson.

Returning letter winners include the following Alissa Kasik, Bailey Lemburg, Cassidy Hoffman, Emily Loseke, Faith Indra, Kayden Schumacher, Kennedy Settje, and Makenna Held.

The team is coached this year by Matt Muren, Bryan Becker, and Jennifer Remmereid.

Head coach, Matt Murren said, "The Patriots are coming off their first state tournament berth in school history in 2020. We return 3 of the 5 starters from that team and 6 of the top 8 players in that rotation. 3-time letter winner and 2-year starter Cassidy Hoffman will be a leader who should have the ability to handle the post. Leading scorer, junior Kennedy Settje, is back and looks to have a breakout junior season as one of the best shooters in the class. We should have a strong inside presence with Schumacher and Hanel as well as guards that can really shoot the ball from the perimeter with Settje, Kasik, Lemburg, Indra and Held. We look to continue to keep our run going and build off what we have accomplished."

The Patriots girls basketball team is excited to get their season started!
