Patriot Boys Go 1-1 in Mid-Week Games

By: Cassidy Hoffman, a senior at Leigh High School

Both girls’ and boys’ basketball teams have had an intense stretch of games the past couple of weeks. The boys’ basketball team took on the Oakland-Craig Knights on Tuesday, December 8 and the Winside Wildcats on Thursday, December 10.

The Patriots fell to the Knights on Tuesday in an ugly battle. In the first quarter, the Pats were outscored 18-4, but then came out and scored 15 in the second quarter.

The second half was very similar to first and ended with a score of 58-38 in favor of the Knights.

While the Patriots struggled offensively, they were led by sophomore Kyle Kasik with 11 points.  Junior Carter Hanel pulled down 11 boards.

Head coach, Jeff Bachman, said, “I thought we played really hard against OC, but didn't shoot well enough to beat them. We need to keep improving on the defensive end of the floor, but we showed we can definitely compete with them. I look forward to playing them again in sub-districts.”

It was quite the opposite story Thursday night against the Winside Wildcats. Tonight, the Patriots were the dominator. They scored in the double digits each quarter and limited the Wildcats to scoring at most six points per quarter. This game ended in favor of the Patriots with a score reflecting their hard work: 61-19.

“It was a great game for the team. We came and did what we were supposed to,” said Hanel. “Hopefully we can carry that momentum into the rest of the season.”

The Clarkson-Leigh’s boys’ basketball team has a record of 2-2 after their first four games.
