Patriots Knock off Unbeaten C-1 Scouts
By Jacob Martensen, a freshman at Leigh High School.
The David City Scouts came to Leigh to battle the Clarkson-Leigh Patriots in an intense game on December 15 in a night of girls’ JV and Varsity games.
“We knew David City had made tremendous improvements from past years, junior Kennedy Settje said, “so going into the game we knew what we had coming for us.”
The Patriots jumped out to an early 11-4 lead at the end of the first quarter. Though the next three quarters weren’t as dominating, it allowed the Patriots to stay on top of the Scouts the entire game.
“We came out and had a nice first quarter once we got going, but we were unable to get any flow going offensively in the second quarter, which is credit to their defense,” said Head Coach Matt Murren. “Thankfully we made enough plays and stops in the second half to come away with a victory."
Both teams were unbeaten going into the matchup, and the Patriots beat the C-1 Scouts 38-30. This puts the Patriot record at 6-0.
Senior Alissa Kasik was high scorer on the night with 12 points, but it was a very balanced attack for the Patriots.
“We went on some crucial runs and hit a few big shots to allow us to pull away with the game at the end,” said Settje. “It was a well fought battle for both teams!”
