GBB Remains Unbeaten

By: Jessica Hoffman, a sophomore at Leigh High School

The Patriot Girls Varsity remain undefeated with an 8-0 record after picking up two wins the week before going into Christmas Break.

The first game the girls played was at home against the Howells-Dodge Jaguars on December 19th.

The JV girls lost their game with the score 20-38.

The varsity girls game ended in a two-point victory, 52-54, coming out on top. They worked really hard to finish out on top after Howells-Dodge shot the ball very well from behind the three-point line.

Freshman Chloe Hanel had a dominating game with 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals. Seniors Cassidy Hoffman and Kayden Schumacher also led the attack with 8 points apiece.

“It was definitely a tough game,” Hoffman said. “They played and shot the ball really well. It felt great to walk away with a win, though, and continue our win streak.”

Continuing on through the week they traveled to Lakeview to challenge the Vikings on December 22. The JV girls lost big to the Vikings with the final score of 17-50.

On the flip side the Varsity girls defeated a 4-2 Class C-1 Lakeview team by 20 points. Their final score was 48-28.

Coach Matt Murren was pleased with his team’s performance.

"We came out and had a great first half offensively and defensively,” he said. “We were able to push the ball in transition in that first half and not allow their 1-3-1 to set up. The girls did a great job of shooting with confidence and attacking their zone in that first half, which gave us some separation and allowed us to win a big road game before the break."

The Patriots look forward to an action-packed start to the New Year with 9 games in the month of January.  They will play East Butler in Clarkson on January 8 and an undefeated St. Francis team in Leigh on January 15.
