Zulkoski and Cadwallader Win “Student of the Month”

By Jacob Martensen, a freshman at Leigh High School.

On the very last day of the semester before Christmas break, a new set of “Student of the Month” award winners was announced.

We are pleased to announce that Trevor Zulkoski and Cortlynn Cadwallader are this month’s winners!

The first winner is senior Trevor Zulkoski.  He is the son of Kelly and Phil Wendt and Ross and Becca Zulkoski.  His grandparents are Jerry and Kathy Bierman, Ellie Zulkoski, and Rick and Lori Wendt.

Trevor participates in football, basketball, One-Act, FFA, YAC, and FBLA.

Trevor’s favorite subject in school is weights. His favorite hobbies outside of school include hunting, fishing, and hanging out with friends.

Trevor plans to attend Northeast Community College and go into Agribusiness.

Trevor said, “This is my second time winning this award. It makes me feel good that people recognize that I try to do a good job, and I was kind of surprised that I won it twice now.”

Here is what Trevor’s teachers had to say:

--I’ve just been so impressed with Trevor’s maturity in my class this year. He’s always on time with assignments, or even early. He works hard to do his best in all of his activities. Pleasant to be around and helpful to everyone.

--Trevor has grown into a good student and is genuinely fun to have in class and a pleasure to be around. He has shown a lot of commitment and growth to his extracurricular activities.

Our second winner is Cortlynn Cadwallader, a junior at Leigh.  Cortlynn’s parents' names are Randy and Rhonda Cadwallader Cadwallader.

Cortlynn’s favorite subjects in school are math and art.  Cortlynn’s extracurricular activities are Girls’ Golf.  Cortlynn's favorite hobbies are drawing, playing with kids, and spending time with family.

Cortlynn's future plans are going to be either going to Northeast Community College or UNK to become a lower elementary teacher or an art teacher.

Cortlynn said “This is my first time winning this award. Winning this award means a lot to me because it shows that you are being recognized for being kind and helpful in your school and community.”

Here is what Cortlynn’s teachers had to say:

-Cortlynn has volunteered many nights to stream concerts and basketball games. Her effort and time have benefited those who are unable to attend due to Covid limitations as well as reaching friends and family from far away. Cortlynn is a great representative of our student body who is willing to take charge and cares about our entire community and their families.

-Cortlynn is one of the kindest students I have ever taught. She is always in a good mood and willing to help out. She has shown tremendous improvement in the classroom over the years.

Congratulations to Trevor and Cortlynn!
