Senior Spotlight 2021: Rylee Olson

By: Kayden Schumacher, a senior at Leigh High School

Mike and Caree Olson were blessed with their oldest child, Rylee Sue Olson, on September 27, 2002. Rylee was born in Onawa, Iowa. She has a younger brother: Jared, 14.

Rylee’s grandparents are Vic Olson of Columbus Nebraska, and Mike Prince of Mapleton Iowa. Rylee’s family wouldn’t be complete without her Australian Shepherd, Lucy, and her two cats: Sylvia and Jamal.

Rylee has been involved in many extracurricular activities throughout her high school career. She has participated in FCCLA for six years; choir, one-act, and softball for four years; Youth Advisory Council and FBLA for three years; and band for two years.

With her high involvement in extracurricular activities, Rylee has received numerous honors and awards. Rylee made the elite honor choir three out of the four years that she participated in choir. She has won letters in both softball and one-act all four years. She earned an Outstanding Actress Award at district One-Act, and she also earned the “Best Supporting Actress” in the entire EHC conference this year.  She is also a past recipient of “Student of the Month.”

As Rylee looks back on all of her accomplishments in high school, she recalled her proudest moments were getting her CNA and maintaining a part time job all throughout high school.

She also remembers her most embarrassing moment; she hit a pig with her car on her way to work. Rylee doesn’t have very good luck with cars, as she said her car blowing up was equally as embarrassing. Her favorite high school memory was “the time Maddie and I tried to sneak into the furnace closet in Mr. Bachman’s trailer park.” Rylee claims they were looking for Narnia.

Rylee describes herself as laid back, and she claims she has a procrastination issue. Rylee also admits to having a very dark sense of humor. Her favorite hobbies are to hang out with her friends and to go shopping. If Rylee could travel anywhere, she would travel to Italy because of the amazing food and attractions.

If Rylee won the lottery, she would build her dream house after she paid off all of her loans. Three goals on Rylee’s bucket list are to own a pet racoon, create a traveling bar, and to meet her great grandchildren.

Rylee has a long list of favorites. Her favorite subject in school is childhood development and parenting. Rylee’s favorite movie is The Notebook, and her favorite series is The Office. Her favorite singer is Luke Combs, and her favorite team is obviously the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Rylee’s future plans are to attend Central Community College for Business Administration, then transfer to a 4 year institution. In ten years, she sees herself married with a family. She hopes to be working as a healthcare administrator or in human resources.

Rylee’s advice to underclassmen is simply “Enjoy your time.”

We wish Rylee the best of luck on her future endeavors!
