A Night of “Golden Memories” Is One Not Soon Forgotten

“Golden Memories” was the theme of this year’s Junior/Senior Prom held March 27 at the Clarkson Opera House. 

All Leigh and Clarkson juniors and seniors and their dates danced the night away amidst black-and-gold, 1920s-inspired décor. 

The night began with class pictures taken by Mrs. Michelle Held, then many of the students chose to attend the St. Cyril and Methodius Prom mass. Everyone reconvened at 6:15 pm for a meal of chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, salad, dinner roll, and ice cream catered by HyVee. Staff and school board members were invited to the meal as well.  

            The meal was served by this year’s sophomore servers, 6 from Leigh and 6 from Clarkson.  Servers were selected based on the top academic standing in the class. 

            After dinner, as is tradition, the Grand March was open to the public and the juniors and seniors were presented as parents and grandparents watched. 

            The dance began immediately after, with a parent/child dance as the first song.  The dance lasted until 11 pm.  Music was provided by Chuck and Sue Folken.

            The evening concluded with Post Prom festivities lasting until 3 am that included a hypnotist, games, prizes, and more great food.

            Prom sponsors were Mrs. Megan Hillen, Mrs. Justine Fischer, Mrs. Caitlin Kabes, and Mr. Jim Clarkson.

            This Prom was especially special for this year’s seniors, as they were not able to have a junior Prom last year due to Covid-19. 

            Senior Madisyn Pelan said, “For it being my last prom and missing out on the one from Junior year, it was one of my best memories from high school. I had a great time being around people I care about.”
