Carter Hanel Breaks Patriot Discus Record at Humphrey Invite
By: Macy Clausen, a freshman at Leigh High School
April 27th was another very successful day for the Clarkson-Leigh Varsity track team.
The team had a finals-only meet in Humphrey that Wednesday despite the cold. This meet brought many medals, broken personal records, and one broken school record!
Junior Carter Hanel won the Discus event and broke the Patriot Discus record with a throw of 155’09”.
Coach Brianna Wietfeld said, “The Humphrey meet was another chance for our athletes to show their hard work. The meet ended up not being the best of weather but that did not stop these kids. We had many PRs for the day including Macy Clausen in discus, Cassi Rayback in 800, Kennedy in 400, Mitch Beeson in shot, Eli Hays in the 200, Emily in the 200, Faith in 100H, 4x100 McKenna, Emily, Tanyn, & Chloe, 4x800 Cassi, Sage, Kylee, and Makenna.
“It is awesome each meet to see these athletes show up and compete,” Wietfeld continued. “We are in the middle of season where the end is fast approaching and we are exactly where we want to be.”
