Students Visit Joslyn Art Museum
By: Korbee Wendt, a sophomore at Leigh High School
An entire day of fun.
That’s how art students described a trip to the Joslyn Art Museum on April 22.
The students who attended the day-long event were Cortlynn Cadawallader, Ashly Guillen, Jessica Hoffman, Hailey Kudera, Emily Loseke, Hazel Mundt, Korbee Wendt, and Zoey Wolford.
These art students attended with art instructor Mrs. Ann Cerv to learn more about the artists they have been studying in class. They then broke into groups and did a scavenger hunt that entailed finding certain paintings and sculptures they have been studying.
“This was an odd year for our visit,” said Mrs. Cerv. “Because of COVID-19, the Joslyn would only allow eight visitors at a time. It was different because we usually take all art students. The small group was so nice because we could gather and discuss the art throughout the visit. Taking only the advanced art students made it an exciting tour for me because the students were really engrossed in the activity.”
“I've visited Joslyn every year of high school, and I'm thankful we could continue this tradition despite COVID,” senior Emily Loseke said. “I had a great day, and it was a great way to celebrate our art accomplishments, including recognizing over 30 artists. I always enjoy doing the scavenger hunts Mrs. Cerv creates for us. This year we also decorated masks based on Joslyn's Shimomura painting that represents America's common prejudices and racial stereotypes.”
