Boys Golf In the Midst of Whirlwind Season

Team Finishes Fifth of 13 at Conference Tourney

By: Morgan Bunner, Leah Pinkston, and Jacob Martensen

The Patriot boys’ golf team has played in a flurry of duals and invitationals in the past three weeks.

On April 29 at 10 am, the Patriots attended the Humphrey St. Francis Invite.

Ryan Brichacek shot the low score at this meet with a 96, followed by sophomore Mason Whitmore with 99.  Mic Sayers shot 103, followed by Isaac Rodenburg with 109 and Jackson Mullenhoff at 125.

Other teams in the invite included Humphrey St. Francis, Norfolk Catholic, Howells/Dodge, Shelby/Rising City, Luthern High, Boone Central, Humphrey/Lindsay, Osceola, Twin River, and Spalding Academy.

Just two days later on sunny May 1 at the Pierce Community Golf Course, the Patriots were back in action again.

At this meet, Whitmore was the low score of the day with 94.  Sayers shot 99, Brichack shot 104, Rodenburg shot 106, and Jase Indra shot 114.

This wasn’t the Patriots’ best meet as a team, but they still went out and competed.

The Varsity, JV, and JVV golfers then golfed in a triangular at Stanton on May 4th. This was the JV and the JVV golfers’ final meet of the year. But for the Varsity kids, it was just one of the final meets before Conference and Districts began.

Head Coach Andrew Faltys said, “The kids competed and golfed the course for the first time and set us up for the golf invite on Friday! This was the last JV meet, and I appreciate all the players for competing in golf this year and we have a bright future ahead of us!”

No scores were available for this meet.

On May 7, the Varsity golfers golfed the Stanton Course for the second time in a week with Mason Whitmore placing 15th overall.

“At this meet, I thought we could have shot better as a team, Whitmore said, but we all did our best.  There were a lot of good teams at this meet.”

Finally, the regular season culminated with the East Husker Tournament on May 10.

At this meet, Brichacek earned 10th place overall, shooting a 90.

Wisner-Pilger’s Rodney Peck won the individual title for the second straight year.

All other golfers in the Top 10 besides Brichacek and Peck were from Tekamah-Herman, the Conference champs, and Oakland-Craig, the runner-ups.

“I was very pleased with how we competed today,” Coach Faltys said. “We shot 397 as a team.  This was one of our better rounds as a team and our best round by an individual so far this season!”

Behind Brichacek, Whitmore shot 99, Sayers shot 102, Mullenhoff finished with a 106, and Indra rounded out the varsity with 114.

The Patriots finished in a respectable 5th place out of 13 teams!
