Athletes Honored at Annual Sports Banquet

By: Sage Fernau, a freshman at Leigh High School

The annual athletics banquet was held in Leigh's new high school gym on Thursday the 30th. All athletes and their coaches, and parents gather on this one night to commemorate this year's athletic prowess in the sports of basketball, football, wrestling, volleyball, softball, dance, and track.

The meal that was served this year was chicken breast, baked potato, corn, dinner roll, and ice cream. To kick off the banquet, the athletes, coaches, and parents watched a video of all the highlights of this year's sports players.

Track coach Briana Wietfeld said, “The Booster Club does such an amazing job setting this event up to honor our athletes. This year I was privileged to be able to give the opening remarks and I enjoyed praising all these student athletes. I wanted them to know that their coaches and teachers, along with administrations, parents and community members, all notice the hard work they put in each season and how that is not always an easy feat. It takes much responsibility, commitment, and dedication to be a student athlete, and having a night to acknowledge this is a great experience for them. I am honestly so proud of how each Patriot and Cyclone athlete represents our school and community. I thought that each of the coaches' remarks elaborated on this pride and that we will continue to be strong student athletes as years continue, and our seniors will go on to be great inspirations due to their involvement in these activities.”

In addition to each individual sport handing out letterman pins and other various awards, another the awarding of scholarships to senior student athletes highlighted the evening.

The Patriot Booster Club Scholarship was awarded to (pictured L to R): Alissa Kasik, Lance Paprocki, Trevor Zulkoski, and Bailey Lemburg

Selected for the Patriot Youth Council scholarship were (pictured L to R): Tommy McEvoy, Kayden Schumacher, Cassidy Hoffman, Alissa Kasik, Bailey Lemburg, and Emily Loseke.

Congratulations to all the athletes who worked hard this year and will continue to work even harder to represent our school in the many eventful years yet to come.
