2021 Senior Spotlight: Kayden Schumacher

By: Cassidy Hoffman, a senior at Leigh High School

On a cheery September day in 2002, the 19th to be exact, Marin Zabka and Jeremy Schumacher welcomed their daughter Kayden Schumacher into the world.

Kayden’s parents are Jeremy and Tina Schumacher and Marin and Doug Zabka. Her grandparents are Mike and Tammy Schumacher of Schuyler. Kayden has three siblings: Grant (8), Alli (6), and Kyson (2). She also has a step brother, Cody (16). She claims that her sister Alli doubles as a pet...more specifically a Tasmanian devil.

Throughout her high school career, Kayden has been extremely involved in many activities. She has been a member of journalism, One-Act play, and the volleyball and basketball teams for four years. She has participated in yearbook for three years, and finally has gone out for track, FCCLA, and FBLA for two years.

Some of her honors include Student of the Month, earning a letter in sports, EHC 2nd team All-Conference volleyball, being a member of National Honor Society, and being an FCCLA national medalist.

Outside of school, Kayden enjoys playing sports or going to her cabin to swim, fish, ice skate, or four-wheel. She also really enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Kayden’s advice to underclassmen would be, “Even though high school can get busy, make sure you take time to spend time with your family.”

Her favorite subject in school is art. Her favorite team is the Kansas City Chiefs, and her favorite food is Chinese.

When asked what her favorite high school memory was, she responded that Coach Murren’s crazy dance moves in the locker room after big games were the most memorable. Her proudest moments in high school were making it to state in volleyball and basketball.  She recalled her most embarrassing moment as the time when she burned off her hair, some of her eyebrows, and her eyelashes during one chemistry class.

Three words that best describe Kayden would be outgoing, motivated, and “schitzy”. “Schitzy” is an inside joke with her classmates. Kayden is well known for her fun-crazed outbursts and unmatchable energy that she brought each and every day.

After high school, Kayden plans to play volleyball at Southeast Community College in Beatrice. Her major is undecided.

In 10-15 years, she sees herself married with a stable job and a nice house. She emphatically says that she will have no children.

We wish Kayden the best of luck with all her future endeavors!
