Eight Players Begin New Girls’ Patriot Golf Season!

By: Paige Kurpgeweit, a freshman at Leigh High School

August 2021 was the beginning of a great season for the Clarkson-Leigh girls’ golf team.

This year’s team consists of 8 girls, including senior Cortlynn Cadwallader, freshman Paige Kurpgeweit, and freshman Alisyn Lich, all of Leigh, as well as senior Kaitlyn Fehrer, juniors Ashly Guillen and Hazel Mundt, sophomore Trinity Eggerman, and freshman Rosie Guillen, all of Clarkson.

The coaches are Ms. Jayden Pokorney and Mr. Mike Meyer.

One of two seniors, Cortlynn Cadwallader, said, “It will be exciting because we have three new faces joining us this year, as well as the five old faces from previous years. We all are coming together as a team and we can compete at varsity meets this year.”

The first meet of the year was held August 31, 2021, at Club 91 Golf Course in Leigh. It was a triangular against Norfolk Catholic and Stanton.

The Patriot girls placed first as a team. Fehrer placed first overall, shooting a 47 after 9 holes. In second place overall was Cadwallader with a 57. Third place was Ashly Guillen with a 58 and fourth place was Mundt with 6o. Rounding out the Patriot varsity was Paige Kurpgeweit, who shot 75.

“We have a lot of experience coming back this year. I look for good things to happen and look forward to the girls' improvement,” Coach Meyer said.
