Patriots Dominate at Madison Triangular

By: Carter Brabec, a freshman at Leigh High School

After coming off an exciting win against Howells-Dodge for both varsity and JV on Tuesday night, the Lady Patriots geared up to play the Madison Dragons and Stanton Mustangs on Thursday night.

Both of these games were a good opportunity for us to get more game reps, senior Kennedy Settje said. “It feels good to get started with the season and playing against other teams.”

The varsity started the night off playing the Madison Dragons and the JV started the same way. Both Patriot teams won in two sets. The varsity score was a blowout with the Patriots winning 25-10, 25-4.

In the Madison game, senior Makenna Held assisted 7 different players as she set up senior Kennedy Settje 9 times.  Settje ended this game with a total of 7 kills.

Next they played Stanton.  The Patriot varsity beat the Mustangs in two sets and the JV won in three sets.

Assistant Coach Jennifer Remmereid said, “Our games against Madison and Stanton were a good opportunity to work on the chemistry between our hitters and setter and to gain some confidence in transition play. Stanton was a little more competitive and forced our block to read the hitters but they stepped up and are better blockers each game we see”.

Held had 15 set assists against the Mustangs, connecting with sophomore Chloe Hanel for 9 kills.  Hanel also added 9 digs.

Freshman Izzy Hollatz said, “Madison was a pretty easy win, but Stanton was a tougher opponent. We ended up winning both games in two sets, and played really well!”

These two wins bring the varsity record to 3-0!
