Cyclones Lose Big to Top-Ranked Teams in Wahoo

By: Cassandra Rayback, a sophomore at Leigh High School

The Cyclones had a busy last couple of days, with getting first place at a tournament on Saturday, a game against Polk County on Monday, and a triangular on Tuesday.

The Cyclones lost both of their games in a hard battle in Wahoo on Tuesday, August 31, in a triangular versus Wayne and Bishop Neumann, both very solid teams

The score of the first game against Wayne was 0-11, with the Cyclones taking the loss. The Cyclones struggled on defense and had a tough time putting runs up on the board after Wayne went on a scoring run in the first three innings.

The score of the second game against Bishop Neuman was 1-13. Bishop Newman scored early in the first inning, and the game got away from the Cyclones quickly. Despite their efforts, the Cyclones couldn’t defend Bishop Newman’s offense.

“We didn’t perform the best, but we learned from both games,” said Nessa Krupka, a junior starter from Howells-Dodge. “We will continue to use our skills in our upcoming games,”

Certainly, this is no reason for the Cyclones to hang their heads.  Bishop Neumann is the top-ranked team in Class C, and Wayne is a highly-ranked team in Class B.

The Cyclone record drops to 8-5 with these losses.
