Patriots Host EHC Golf Tournament

By: Tanyn Larson, a sophomore at Leigh High School

On Saturday, September 25, the Clarkson-Leigh Patriots girls golf team hosted the East Husker Conference Tournament in Leigh.

The day started off a little chilly, but throughout the day, it warmed up and made for a great day for golf.

Paige Kurpgeweit, a freshman at Leigh, said, “The girls did really well!  It was exciting to have a few of our team place!

Coach Jayden Pokorney said, “It was exciting because it has been a while since the girls have hosted a tournament like this.  It's a whole different experience playing a tournament on your home course. The girls showed up and were ready to play.”

Both Ashley Guillen and Hazel Mundt received scores of 108, leading the Patriot team after 18 holes. This left the two girls placing 10th and 11th place overall. Senior Cortlynn Cadwallader shot 109, placing 13th, and Rosie Guillen shot 175.

West Point Beemer’s Brook Diekemper was the individual champion, shooting an 81. The West Point Cadets also won the overall tournament.  Pender placed second, and Stanton finished third as a team.
