Cyclones Finish Regular Season with 19-9 Record

By: Ella Urban, a freshman at Leigh High School

On Saturday, October 2, 2021, at the Wisner Double Dual, the Highway 91 Cyclones finished out their regular season with a commendable 19-9 record.

The Cyclones won the first game handily against West Point-Beemer, 16-1 after scoring 10 runs in the first inning and another 6 in the second.

“During the West Point-Beemer game, we got down to business, did what we needed to, and took the win,” sophomore Cassandra Rayback said.

But next up was NEN, who the Cyclones lost to just two games prior. Even though the Cyclones put up an admirable fight and played them much tougher than in the Conference Tournament, the outcome was still not in their favor.

After the score was tied at 7 runs apiece after 7 innings, the game went extra innings, with NEN winning in the 8th.

“The NEN game was tougher,” Rayback said.  “We played well and took a good team into extra innings, but the game snuck away from us.  Despite the loss, it was a very successful weekend overall, and I think we are prepared for districts.”
