Patriot Volleyball Keeps Unbeaten Streak Alive!
By: Tanyn Larson, a sophomore at Leigh High School
The Patriots had a successful week of two home games on Tuesday, September 7, and Thursday, September 9. On the Tuesday game the Patriots took on the BRLD Wolverines and on the Thursday game the Patriots played the Pender Pendragons, both in Clarkson.
The Tuesday night game started off with the C team winning their game in 2 sets and then JV following losing their game in 3 sets.
After the C and JV game, varsity then played. The first two sets the Patriots won, but the third set they lost trailing the Wolverines by 3 points. Then finally the Patriots came back the last set, finishing the game and beating BRLD.
Sophomore Chloe Hanel racked up a whopping 20 kills in this game, and senior Kennedy Settje added 14, while senior Makenna Held recorded 43 assists.
On Thursday, the night started with a mix of C team and JV playing 4 sets against Pender. Between C and JV playing, they won all 4 of their sets.
Then varsity played. Varsity took the Pendragons in only 3 sets, easily sweeping the Pendragons.
Assistant Coach, Jennifer Remmereid said, “Early in our season we found some comraderie on our team. This group plays well together and will do some good things in their career.”
Held recorded 29 set assists in the matchup, while Hanel and Settje each contributed 15 and 13 kills respectively. Hanel also led the team in digs with 12, while the freshmen duo of Izzy Hollatz and Brynn Settje added 11 apiece.
“They were both pretty hard games, but in the end, we pushed through and won them both,” Brynn Settje said. “These were great wins in front of our home crowd.”
This now leaves the Patriots with a 7-0 record so far this season!
