Patriots Finish Fourth in Conference Volleyball
By: Cassandra Rayback, a sophomore at Leigh High School
On Thursday, October 14 and Saturday, October 16, the Patriots played in the East Husker Conference Volleyball Tournament. They were the second seed in the conference, which earned them a bye and home-court advantage in the opening round. They ended up finishing fourth in the Conference after their day on Saturday ended in disappointment.
Their first match-up was against BRLD on Thursday. They won in two sets. “With it being the first round of conference, I think we came in pretty good and really competed on our home court for the first round of conference,” said sophomore Tanyn Larson.
The Patriots then traveled to West Point to play the remaining games of the conference. The Patriots played top-seeded Oakland-Craig in their second game of the conference. They pushed the game into three sets after a 27-25 victory in the second match, but they lost 20-25 in the third set, which sent them to the consolation game to play for third place.
Their third and final game of the conference was against the Wisner-Pilger Gators. They played two, close, hard sets, lost both, and ended the day with fourth place. At the end of the day on Saturday, this left the Patriots’ record at 22-6.
Even though the girls did not come home with a championship like they hoped, we are still proud of our Patriots!
