By: Paige Kurpgeweit, a freshman at Leigh High School

On November 1st of this year, Leigh and Clarkson had 20 students chosen to attend the East Husker Conference Honor Choir.

The students who attended from Leigh included Isaac Rodenburg (senior, tenor), Audie Tejkl (senior, bass), Morgan Bunner (sophomore, bass), Natalie Brabec (senior, soprano), Lilly Bunner (sophomore, soprano), Makenna Held (senior, alto), Dee Rivera (junior, alto), Gabriel Pinkston (sophomore, alto), and Paige Kurpgeweit (freshman, alto).

Clarkson students attending were Cadin Brandt (sophomore, tenor), Samuel Pocasangre (sophomore, tenor), Nile Jones (freshman, tenor), Mitch Beeson (senior, bass), Drew Beeson (junior, bass), Christian Hamernik (sophomore, bass), Kaitlyn Fehrer (senior, soprano), Ashly Guillen (junior, soprano), Alyssa Gurnsey (junior, soprano), Bailie Graybill (senior, alto), and Teagan Baumert (freshman, alto).

Three students were chosen sing with the elite choir: Mitch Beeson, Drew Beeson, and Christian Hamernik.

“East Husker Conference Honor Choir went great, it is always a great opportunity to sing with kids from other schools and perform with such a large group,” senior Audie Tejkl said.

During the time they were there, they went over five songs: “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “Festival Sanctus,” “Riu Riu Chiu,” “Can You Hear,” and “For the Sake Of Our Children.”

Choir teacher Cindy Settje said, "Once again, the East Husker Conference Honor Clinic was so enjoyable, and I am glad we were able to perform as a group together again.  I am so proud of the students.  We had an over and above number of students audition this year.  We were only allowed to bring 20 students, so this is a fantastic number for a school of our size.  The Clarkson-Leigh choir students have really stepped it up as leaders in our Conference. Accompanying the Honor Choir was also a wonderful opportunity for me to grow as a music teacher.  I am hoping to use some of the ideas that the clinician used in our local choir."
