Annual Trip to the Joslyn Art Museum is a Success!

By: Aubrie Hanna, a sophomore at Leigh High School

Ready, set, search!

Mrs. Ann Cerv’s high school art students traveled to the Joslyn Art Museum on December 16 to not only see the priceless works, but to also travel around the museum and try their best to complete a scavenger hunt created by Mrs. Cerv.

The students looked to find the source of the pictures in their booklets--from a picture of a neck dawned with necklaces, to a falling angel, and even to a foot in a painting.

34 kids went to the art museum to see the works of various artists, such as Claude Monet, Dale Chihuly, and Mary Cassatt. As always, they studied the artists and creations in preparation for the visit, using the rhymes, stories, and even songs that Mrs. Cerv has created for her students to recall each of the artists’ works.

Junior Jessica Hoffman said, "Going to the Joslyn is always something I look forward to. Mrs. Cerv makes the museum such a fun experience by creating scavenger hunts. She teaches us a variety of the artists prior to going to the Joslyn. It is always rewarding to walk around and be able to name the artists of so many famous paintings. All in all, it was a great day spent at the Joslyn."

Clarkson-Leigh’s art teacher Mrs. Cerv said, “This year's trip to the Joslyn was outstanding! The students all went in groups of two or three and completed a scavenger hunt that I had created for them when I went to the Joslyn weeks ago. Along with the art hunt I also hide little things around the Museum for the kids to find. This year it was crayons. I am sure the Joslyn would not like this...but they never seem to find and remove them. No art was touched or harmed in the creation of this activity! The kids from both schools conducted themselves in a way that always makes me so proud to be from Clarkson and Leigh. Great kids makes for a great time!”
