The Twelve Days of Christmas Giving

Leigh Elementary Holds Christmas Concert

By: Natalie Brabec, a senior at Leigh High School

With the previous day being let out of school, not because of snow, but because of wind, December 16th was a blustery, cold night that was nonetheless one of celebration.

It was now time to celebrate Christmas with the Leigh Elementary Christmas Concert. The elementary classes gave the audience an amazing concert with all of the songs that they have been working on.

“The Elementary Christmas Concert was a lot of fun to put together this year,” Leigh elementary music teacher, Mrs. Cindy Settje, said.  “We included traditional carols as well as some more modern songs as well as actions and dialogue.  The students did a great job of singing the songs, and the 6th graders all did an awesome job of memorizing their lines and helped keep the concert flowing.  What a fun way to begin the holiday season!”

The concert started with the morning and afternoon preschool classes singing three songs: “Jingle Bells,” “Red, Red, Coat” and “He’ll be Comin’ Down the Chimney.” The preschoolers were under the direction of their teacher Tiffany Cash.

The Kindergarteners kept the program going with three songs called “5 Little Elves,” “Must Be Santa,” and “Ten Elves Working.”

The first graders along with the second graders sang “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” “All I Want For Christmas is My Two Front Teeth,” and “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas.” While they were singing the Twelve Days of Christmas, some of the first graders showed what the gift for each day was and demonstrated an action for each of the 12 days.

The third and fourth-graders sang three songs called “When Santa Claus Gets Your Letter,” “Nothing for Christmas,” and “Presents from the Heart.”

The fifth and Sixth Graders sang “Christmas Is” and “All I Want For Christmas is You.”

After all of the classes were done singing, the first through sixth graders got back on stage to sing “Have Yourself a Very Merry Christmas” as a finale. It was quite a sight to see the entire Leigh Elementary sing together!

The concert ended with the 5th and 6th Grade Band playing “Jingle Bells” under the direction of Ms. Liz Kowalski.
