In the world of FFA, LDE stands for “Leadership Development Event.” LDEs are designed for FFA members to participate and compete in events meant to teach them valuable skills for being employed in the ag industry in the future.
On Monday, the 6th of December, the Leigh FFA chapter participated in LDE’s in Newman Grove. The FFA leader, Ms. Knutson said, “The junior high and high school members who competed at LDEs this year did a great job. Many of the students placed very well within their competition. We even had one member, Brianne Kuhr, who won the Creed Speaking event and qualified for the State Convention in April. Overall, I am very proud of the members who competed in LDEs this year.”
In addition to Kuhr placing first in Creed Speaking, freshman Kammy Held received a Blue in Creed; sophomore Taya Hambleton received Purple in Jr. Public Speaking. Sophomore Jacob Martensen received White in Natural Resources. Senior Aiden Miller was awarded Purple in Extemporanesou Speaking. Senior Madison Noonan received Blue in Employment Skills. Seventh-grader Hannah Martensen received Blue in Ag Literacy Speaking.
Junior high students Rebecca Hastreiter, Grace Hansen, Cody Jedlicka, Daphne Jedlicka, Reese Bruhn, and Reann Bruhn participated in Agriculture Pathways.
Luke Eisenmann, Carmen Malena, Kyle McMullin, and Nevaeh Zulkoski made up one team in the Junior High Quiz Bowl, and Ava Kasik, Blake Loseke, Quentin Mullenhoff, and Karly Wendt formed the other team.
Kuhr, who qualified for the state convention in April, said, “The FFA creed helps me present speeches in front of people and it helps me realize what agriculture is about. It shows how I am passionate about agriculture, and every single member of FFA knows the creed, so it makes us united.”
Taya Hambleton, a sophomore at Leigh High School, placed fourth overall in her event. She also recognizes the importance of competing in LDEs. “I participated in Junior Public Speaking with my topic being goat meat. I think this event helps with communication with others and helps you become more outgoing, so that can help anyone in the future.”
