By: Baylee Settje, a freshman at Leigh High School

Humphrey-Lindsay Holy Family and Humphrey St. Francis were the Patriot boys’ basketball C-team’s first games. These first games gave the players an opportunity to see what works best for them and what they need to work on.

The Patriot boy’s C-team had their first game against Humphrey-Lindsay Holy Family on Monday, December 6th, and they were excited to see what they could do. They ended up winning the game with the score of 34-31. The leading scorer was sophomore Trey Steffensmeier, who put up 9 points.

Coach Jeff Bachman said, “I was very proud of our effort. It was a great chance to learn and have our younger guys compete against a solid program. Great job on our guys picking up a W.”

Carter Brabec, a freshman said, “I think it went well for our first game back on the court. For our first game we tried out a lot of things to see what would work best for our team.”

After the Patriot boys came out with their win against Humphrey-Lindsay Holy Family, they were ready to go against Humphrey St. Francis the following Monday, December 13. Their second game didn’t go the way they wanted it to, ending in a tough loss. The score at the end of the game was 18-27 with Humphrey St. Francis on top. Even though they ended up losing the game, they ended the game with many positives. The leading scorer was Korbin Lemburg, a freshman, with 4 points.

Coach Willie Hollatz was asked how the game went and he said, “The kids are working hard and improving every game. They are also getting open to get good looks at the hoop.”

Sophomore Jack Brabec was also asked about the game, and he said, “It was a tough game. We haven’t been tested too much against a press, so this game was a good place to see what that looked like.”
