After a 1-1 start to their season before Christmas, the Patriot boys’ basketball C team faced David City, Lakeview, and Howells-Dodge in the month of January.
The Patriots boys C-team first played David City High on January 11 in David City. They won easily 44-17 led by sophomore Ryan Brichacek with 8 points and 3 assists. Everyone on the team contributed on the scoreboard, allowing them to score the most points they have for the season.
The Patriots hoped to keep the momentum going against Lakeview on January 14. It was a very close game that was neck and neck the whole way. They won in the nail-biter 38-37 after a last-minute shot by Jack Brabec, who ended the game with 8 points and 4 steals along with Korbin Lemburg who had 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Coach Willie Hollatz said, “The Lakeview game was a very close, hard fought game. We had to adjust early on to Lakeview’s speed. Our guys kept their composure in the last couple minutes to get a good win.”
After the boys won two straight they played against rival Howells-Dodge on January 18. This was another close game, but it resulted in a loss, 21-24. Christian Hamernik led the team with 7 points and 4 rebounds.
Freshman Carter Brabec said, “We played well in all our games. We had a lot of energy, and hustle, but unfortunately we couldn't win pull off the win against Howells-Dodge.”
These games bring the C-team record to 3-2 for the season.
