JH Boys Start BB Season Strong

By: Kammy Held, a freshman at Leigh High School

On January 13, 2022, the junior high boys had their first basketball game of the season.  The boys’ team starts their basketball season much later than the girls because they have wrestling season first before Christmas.

Their first game was at Shelby-Rising City. The A team had a very close game, winning 43-40.  The B team tried their hardest, but wasn’t able to pull off the win, losing 0-15 after two quarters.

Kyle McMullin, an 8th grader from Leigh states, “We played well, and our hard work paid off in our win in the first game of the season.”

Next up was Humphrey-Lindsay Holy Family on the 15th.  This time, the A and B team both picked up wins.

The A team's score was 45-29 with Kyle McMullin leading with 13 points. Coach Andrew Bachman said, “After a slow start in the first quarter, our offense started to click, and we were able to start scoring. We hit outside shots, made layups, and post players made good moves. We also played great defense and shut down their big guys on the inside.”

This brings the A team record to 2-0.

The B team also had an exciting game, which went into overtime. The final score was 18-16.

"The B team learned from our first game and showed up ready to play,” Coach Bachman said. “We looked for our shots and attacked the hoop and paint when we needed to. We stayed out of foul trouble and improved our rebounding from the Shelby game.  It was also exciting to have Jacob (Kroeger) hit his first ever game-winning shot!"

This makes the B team 1-1.
