JH Girls Basketball Finishes Season

By: Sage Fernau, a sophomore at Leigh High School

The junior high girls’ basketball season has come to an end, wrapping up with their final game against Howells Dodge on January 15.

The game against the Jaguars was not the end of the season the A-team girls were hoping for, as they lost 8-28, but the B team was able to conclude their season with a close win 26-25.

“I think that our season went really well,” seventh-grader Carmen Malena said. “We learned a lot as a team and worked our hardest to leave this season on a good note. We had lots of fun throughout our season and I can't wait for next year.”

Overall, the A-team finished their season with a 6-6 record.  The B team was 5-3, the B/C combined team was 2-0, and the C team girls finished 3-2.

The girls were coached by Mr. Matt Murren and assisted by Mrs. Tami Sayers and Mrs. Melissa Brabec.

Assistant coach Brabec said, “This season proved to be successful in our skill development and hard work throughout the year!  Even though some of the games didn't go as we would have liked, it was fun to see the girls play hard and build their basketball athleticism!  These teams have a bright future ahead of them!”

What a great season for the Junior High girls! Go Pats!
