During the final week of January, the Clarkson-Leigh boys’ junior high basketball team had two games. On Monday, January 24, the junior high boys played Howells-Dodge in Clarkson. Then, on Thursday, January 27, they played David City, also in Clarkson.
On January 24, the B team boys started off the night, but lost 19-27.
Coach Andrew Bachman said about the B team game: “We struggled to have offensive consistency. We started the game slow and ended slow. We need to work on taking care of the ball and getting high quality shots throughout the game and not for limited spurts."
Following the B team boys, the A team boys played. They also lost a close game, 36-41.
Of this game, Coach Bachman said, “Howells-Dodge had a good team that was very disciplined and ran an effective offense, so we had to learn on the go how to defend. We took a lead into the fourth quarter, but we couldn't finish the game. We will continue to build on both the offensive and defensive sides to be able to finish those close games."
The second game of the week against David City went much better for both teams. On January 27, the B team boys won a close game of 15-12.
After the B team boys, the A team boys also won 34-19.
When asked about the David City game, eighth-grader Brayden Loseke kept it simple and said, “We got the win and that's what matters.”
These games bring the A team record to 4-2 and the B team record to 3-2.
