Patriot Boys Fall to Pierce, Defeat Stanton

Going into a busy week, the Clarkson Leigh Boys Basketball team took on the Pierce Bluejays on February 8, 2022, in Leigh.
The Patriots started the game off slow, digging themselves a hole early in the game. After the first quarter the Patriots were down 10-20. Clarkson-Leigh picked it up in the second quarter, playing better defense and scoring more on the offensive side. After two quarters of play the score going into halftime was 25-35 Pierce.
Coming out of halftime, Pierce extended their lead, outscoring the Patriots by 7 in the third quarter. The Patriots worked their way back a little in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Bluejays by 3, but the final score 40-54 Pierce. This was the Patriots’ third loss in a row.
The Patriots then took on the Stanton Mustangs on Thursday, February 10, in another home game at Leigh for their second matchup of the week. The Patriots came into the game 14-5 and the Mustangs came in 11-10. The Patriots got out to a fast start, outscoring the Mustangs by 3 in the first quarter going up 14-11. Clarkson Leigh added onto their lead in the second quarter, outscoring the Mustangs by 9, making the score 33-21 going into halftime.
Coming out of the half the Patriots had a very good defensive quarter, holding the Mustangs to 5 and scoring 19 on the offensive end.
Stanton pushed back in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Patriots 13-2 making the final score 54-39 Clarkson Leigh. Big contributors for the Patriots were Kyle Kasik, who contributed 20 points with 9 rebounds, and Carter Hanel with 10 points, 14 rebounds, and 5 assists.
When asked about the Stanton game, head coach Jeff Bachman said, “I was very pleased how we bounced back after a rough stretch. The guys played very well together and did a great job of sharing the basketball. This was a fun win against a quality conference opponent.”
Senior Carter Hanel said, “It was a great game to bounce back and get on track again.”
The Patriots will continue their season with a record of 15-5.
