Leigh Elementary Celebrates Read Across America!

By: LHS Journalism Staff

Read Across America Week is celebrated in schools across America each year to cultivate and celebrate a love of reading.  The week always centers around March 2nd, to commemorate Dr. Seuss’s birthday.

This week, Leigh Elementary School celebrated the week on February 28-March 4.

Monday’s theme was “Dress in your favorite outfit” to celebrate what makes you you!  Tuesday was “Bring a book to read to a friend” to celebrate that reading is for sharing. Wednesday was “Dress in something cozy” to celebrate that reading is relaxing. Thursday was “Dress up in your favorite sportswear” to celebrate that reading is active. And Friday was “Dress in Patriot gear” to show that we have Patriot Pride for reading!

LCS librarian and tech integrationist Mrs. Kylie Hollatz said, “Every year Leigh Elementary celebrates Read Across America to recognize the importance of literacy.  This year students participated in themed dress up days, and older students paired up with the primary grade students to enjoy the fun of reading.”
