C Team Places Third in Tekamah-Herman Tourney

By: Carter Brabec, a freshman at Leigh High School

The C team boys’ basketball team headed to Tekamah to play in a C-team tournament against Tekamah-Herman and  Logan View/Scribner-Snyder on Saturday, February 19. These were the final C team games for the year for the Patriots.

The Patriots have won the last two times at this tournament, but that was not to be to case today.

They started the day off a little sleepily, coming out in the first quarter and scoring 4 points to Tekamah’s 9 points.  In the second quarter, the boys had a better quarter, scoring 11 points to Tekamah’s 9 points.

After being outscored again in both quarters after halftime, the final score of the game was 33-42 in favor of the Tekamah-Herman Tigers.

Immediately after this game ended, they had another one.  In the second game, they had to play Logan View/Scribner-Snyder.

They started the game off keeping it close, but they were down by three at the end of the first quarter, 8-11.  In the second quarter, the Patriots’ defense held Logan View/Scribner-Snyder to just 2 points.

Down by one going into the 4 quarter, the Patriots scored 12 and Logan View/Scribner-Snyder scored 11, so they headed into OT. The Patriots came to play in overtime, outscoring them 6-1 to bring home third place in the tournament.

Sophomore Jordan Noonan said, “In the first game we started off slow but we were able to pick it up in the second half. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough to win. In our second game we played really well overall and it was fun seeing us able to force O.T. and go onto win. It was a really fun season and I think we all grew as players and a team.”

C Team coach Willie Hollatz said, “The kids’ effort was great and just didn't finish well around the hoop. In the second game, even though we were down the whole game, we fought back and went into OT and we were able to win in OT.”

The final boys’ C team record was 5-3.  Congrats on a good season!
