Patriots Cage the Tigers

By: Carter Brabec, a freshman at Leigh High School

After coming off a good game against Stanton the night before, the boys’ basketball team was ready to face the East Butler Tigers in Clarkson on Friday, February 11, 2022.

The JV team started the night off.  They came out and played two quarters, winning by 10.

The Varsity was up next, and they were no match for the Patriots.  Then the varsity boys game started, and it was “game over” for the East Butler Tigers.

After jumping out to a 16-6 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Patriots continued to roll in the second quarter, outscoring the Tigers 23-6.

After halftime, it was much of the same, with the Patriots never allowing the Tigers to score double digits in any quarter.  The final score of the game was 65-28, which improves the team’s record to 16-5.

The Patriots were led by Kyle Kasik, who had 22 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals.  Senior Jared Novonty also had a good game with 14 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Mr. Bachman said, I was very happy how we played as a team against East Butler. I thought we moved the ball well and executed the game plan very well.  The season has had its ups and downs, but I am very happy with the improvement and growth of our team.

Kasik said, “After being on a three-game losing streak, it feels good to get back on a roll these past few games.”
