“But how do you explain your most hideous crime of all?! Jaywalking!”
On Friday, March 4, the Leigh Speech Team competed for the opportunity to be state-bound at the Class D1-2 District Speech Meet in Humphrey.
The quote above is from sophomore Gabriel Pinkston’s Humorous Prose speech, which earned first place overall in Humorous Prose and is going on to compete at state!
Sophomore Aubrie Hanna also received fifth place overall in Oral Interpretation of Poetry.
Competitors Paige Kurpgeweit (freshman), Brianne Kuhr (freshman), Sage Fernau (sophomore), and Taya Hambleton (sophomore) did not make it to finals, but they did really well overall!
Humphrey High won districts, and Clarkson finished runner-up out of 7 total teams.
“Districts were nerve-wracking, but even through all the nervousness, I am proud to say that my district performance was my best one yet,” Pinkston said. “Our entire team worked incredibly hard this season, and I can’t be more grateful that I got the chance to take us to state.”
Coach Mrs. Madison Gall said, “It is sad to see the season come to an end, but we look forward to supporting Gabe at state next week! I am so proud of all the hard work the kids have put in this season!”
Pinkston will represent Leigh at the Class D1 State Speech meet in Kearney on Friday, March 18!
