Eisenmann Wins Presidential March Madness Challenge

By: Kennedy Settje, a senior at Leigh High School

As March rolls around, so does the annual Presidential March Madness. The annual presidential competition was kicked off in February, but continued into March. The senior class competition ended on March 9th, with Jacob Eisenmann ending up as champion.

“It is an honor to have won this fun competition,” Eisenmann said.

Each senior had a different president they had to represent in three rounds of debates.  The first round was for the debaters to list and describe all the good things about their presidents. Everyone had 2 minutes for this round.

The second round was used as the “dirt” round and everyone was given 1 minute and 30 seconds. Each person had to give all the dirt they could find on their opponent's president.

The final round was a time used to say whatever the debater felt was necessary. Students were allowed 1 minute to give another pitch about why their president is the best, or spend their time listing reasons why their opponent's president isn’t worthy.

Week to week people were slowly eliminated from the competition.

The finals match-up came down to Jacob Eisenmann against Kanyon Held.  Kanyon represented George H.W. Bush and Jacob represented James K. Polk. Two “celebrity” judges, Mr. Cole Fischer and Mrs. Madison Gall, evaluated the debaters for the final round.

After listening to the heated debate between Kanyon and Jacob, the judges conversed amongst themselves to decide a winner. After much thought, Jacob Eisenmann was crowned the winner of the 2022 Presidential March Madness. He received a $20 gift certificate to JAMM.

Government teacher, Mr. Jeff Bachman, said, “The students did a great job in this year's competition. They were competitive, willing debaters and had fun with the event.”
