The sound of wonderful music filled the gym at the Clarkson-Leigh Spring “Pops” Concert on March 31. Choir teacher Cindy Settje and band director Elizabeth Kowalski led the students in performing fun, out-of-the-ordinary songs.
The junior high band performed “Voyage Into the Abyss,” “After the Storm,” and finished it off with “The Avengers,” the theme from the popular Marvel movies.
The Clarkson-Leigh Senior High Choir then performed “I Gotta Feeling,” with soloists Paige Kurpgeweit and Drew Beeson. After, they performed “The Wayfaring Stranger,” and then “The Sound of Silence,” with soloists Mitch Beeson, Christian Hamernik, Samuel Zuniga-Pocasangre, Drew Beeson, Bailie Graybill, Gabriel Pinkston, Ashley Guillen, Makenna Hake, Sage Fernau, and Paige Kurpgeweit.
Eighth graders Jocelyn Donnelly, Sydney Messerlie, and Lexis Gleason performed “Rock On!”, a percussion ensemble.
They were followed by the Leigh Junior High Choir with “We Will Rock You,” with soloists Sydney Messerlie, Hannah Martensen, George Waterman, and Hadrian Janssen. After, they performed a Journey Medley. The Clarkson Junior High Choir performed “Sing, Sing, Sing,” with dancers Ava Baumert, Ella Baumert, Maize Stoklasa, Sophia Morfield, Chyann Becker, Madi Compton, and Mackenna Kudera, and soloists Sophia Morfield, Maize Stocklasa, Ella Baumert, and Claire Holoubek.
The Clarkson-Leigh High School Band finished the concert with a medley from the musical Wicked.
“It was fun to try something different this year with the Pops concert. We were able to add choreography along with the singing and feature a lot of different soloists. The students were great at sharing their talents,” said Mrs. Settje.
Mrs. Kowalski noted, “It was a good night for doing some fun music. We did some different things from swing choir moves to bucket drumming. It was a good time!”
