LHS Class of 2022 Senior Spotlight: Kanyon Held

By: Jared Olson, a freshman at Leigh High School

On December 28, 2003, in Columbus, Nebraska, Kip and Kamin Held were blessed with the birth of their youngest son, Kanyon Zane Held.

In addition to his mom and dad, Kanyon has two siblings, Kolton Held, 24 and Kaegan Held, 21. Kanyon’s grandparents are Dennis and Linda Hillen of Creston and Lorraine Held of Columbus.

Kanyon’s family wouldn’t be complete without his 15 horses, and his 3 dogs: Ridge, Raine, and Luxe.

Kanyon has been highly involved in extracurricular activities throughout his high school career. He has participated in football, basketball, One-Act play, journalism, and FFA for four years; and FBLA and Youth Advisory Committee for 3 years; golf for 1 year. It is through his activities Kanyon has had some of his greatest high school memories. Kanyon states that his proudest high school moment was being named Outstanding Actor at State in One-Act twice.

Kanyon has also had many accomplishments. In addition to his One-Act honors, Kanyon has been named Student of the Month twice, football letter winner 4 times, the A honor role for all years.  He was also one of 30 students statewide selected as one of this year’s “Believers and Achievers.”

This dedicated senior is described as hardworking, funny, and smart. Kanyon’s favorite subject in school is Math. His favorite restaurant is Texas Roadhouse, and his favorite sport team is the Nebraska Huskers. His biggest pet peeve is when people start saying something, but don’t finish.

If Kanyon won the lottery, he would build a house and shed and then buy vehicles. He also wishes to go to Aspen, Colorado to go skiing.

Many people have helped shape and mold Kanyon into the wonderful, successful person he is today. Kanyon says one of his role models in life is his uncle Kit Held. “He is hardworking and has taught me a lot,” Kanyon said.

Kanyon says one of his most embarrassing moments in high school was not winning a single JV football game his freshman year. His favorite highschool memory is the one act practices. Outside of school you’ll find kanyon Working, and hunting.

Kanyon’s plan after high school is to attend Wayne State College and major in Construction Management and Agribusiness. His top three goals on his bucket list are to graduate college, have a family, and own a house in Leigh.  In 10-15 years, Kanyon sees himself married with kids and living and working in the Leigh area.

Kanyon’s advice to underclassmen is: “Have fun in high school, and enjoy it while it lasts.”
