Mason Whitmore and Reese Wietfeld Win “Student of the Month”

By: Deandrea Rivera, a junior at Leigh High School

As the school year continues, students keep on showing their hard work and are getting recognized for it!

The two recipients for March “Student of the Month” were junior Mason Whitmore and seventh-grader Reese Wietfield.

Both are first-time recipients of the award!

Mason Whitmore is the son of Craig Whitmore and Kacy Wietfield.

He participates in football, basketball, FFA, and track. His favorite class is shop class since he plans to go into Construction Management after he graduates.

When Mason is out of school he enjoys playing sports and hunting. When he graduates in 2023, he plans to attend Wayne State College for Construction Management.

When asked about how he feels about winning Student of the Month he says, “THANK YOU!!!!”

Here’s what Mason’s teachers had to say about him:

“Mason has really grown up and has taken on added responsibilities. The older he gets, the more he cares about his studies and tries harder in class.  I have been impressed with him as a leader in basketball. He stepped up big for his team this year and has a very positive attitude about everything he does.”

“Mason is helpful and a fun student to have in class and a positive leader in our school.  He will talk to anyone and say hi to everyone in the hallways, whether it’s teachers, classmates, or younger students.  He has really matured into a well-rounded young man with a great personality.

Reese Wietfeld is the other recipient of this award.  She is the daughter of Emily and Matthew Wietfeld, and the granddaughter of Doug and Susie Fischer and Kenny Wietfeld.

She participates in volleyball, basketball, track, FCCLA, and FFA. Her favorite subject is writing.

When Reese is out of school she enjoys training her heifers and working on her volleyball and basketball skills. In the future Reese hopes to be a pediatrician.

When she was asked how it felt to get Student of the Month she says, “I am excited to be Student of the Month because it shows hard work and dedication pays off!"

Here’s what Reese’s teachers had to say about her:

“Reese is an extremely hard worker who does their best in all her classes and puts 100% effort into everything. She is also helpful, friendly and fun to have in class. She also puts in a lot of effort into her extracurriculars.”

“Reese is very deserving of this award because she is dedicated to all she does.   She puts her best effort into everything, and is just an extremely kind, genuine person.”

Congratulations Mason and Reese!
