Cyclones Finish 1-2 in First Tourney

The Highway 91 Cyclones Softball Team has a busy start to their season, seeing eleven games in their first two weeks to kick off the year.

On Saturday, August 20th, the Cyclones traveled to Wayne for their first tournament of the season. The Cyclones started the day off playing Wayne in a tough game. Unfortunately, the Cyclones lost with a final score of 0-10.

Highway 91 started off the second game against Ord on the bottom, but the Cyclones made a great comeback. The score ended 11-10.

To finish off the day, the Cyclones battled in a tough game against Ponca, but took a devastating loss. The final score was 2-4. This left Highway 91 with a record of 1-2 for the day.

Head Coach Jenica Dietrich said, “I thought we battled well in the first game of the day. If a couple of errors were taken away we were right with them. Against Ord, we knew we would need to score runs as Ord is always a tough draw. The girls fought and battled until the end and we were able to scratch out a run. Versus Ponca we had some really great at bats but just weren’t able to string them together. Our defense was ready and played well! Overall, I was super impressed with how we fought all weekend.”

Junior Cassandra Rayback said, “We started off great in the first game, but fell short after their line drive hits. We reset for the second game with high energy. We were down 10-1 going into the third inning, but we all hit the ball well and brought 6 runs to the board. The final inning of the game, we came back and brought home our first win of the season. We battled a tough battle in the third game to keep the score close, but it didn't go in our favor.”

We wish the Cyclones good luck throughout the rest of their season!
