Tough Jags Matchup Ends in Loss for Patriot VB
Serving aggressively, communicating, and passing is what it takes to play a volleyball
game. The Patriot volleyball team was looking to do these three things well on August 30th,
when they faced the Howells-Dodge Jaguars in Clarkson.
The Patriots started off the game really well. They were communicating with each other
and playing really well together. They were getting their passes on target and were able to get
great hits off of them. The first set ended 25-18 with the Patriots winning.
During the second set, the Patriots had even better communication. They were celebrating
for every point, and they pushed to the end. The second set ended 25-23 with the Patriots once
again.
After the break was over, the Patriots wanted to be able to end the game with a win. They
started off doing all the right things, but the Jags never backed down. At a tie game, 19-19, in the
third set, the Patriots stopped doing the little things right. A lack of communication made the
final score 23-25 with the Jaguars winning.
The fourth and fifth set, the Patriots just couldn’t get on the same page. More
miscommunication and unforced serving and serve receive errors ultimately led to a
disappointing Patriot loss.
In the end, the Patriots learned a lot from this game, especially that they have to keep
their heads up when they make a mistake, and to be able to communicate when things get tight.
Senior middle blocker Korbee Wendt said, “Unfortunately the game didn’t go how we
wanted it to. The atmosphere was amazing and the first two sets were great! Tuesday night just
wasn’t our night, but we still put up a good battle! We are looking for revenge down the road this
season. We are shaking it off and ready to bounce back!”
Head Coach Becky Schneider said, “Our match against HD is definitely one we need to
learn from and take steps forward! We completely controlled the first two and a half sets! We
were calm, did the little things right, and took care of the ball! Toward the end of the third set,
though, we let them control the game. We let a few errors get to us, and in turn, we lost the
momentum and couldn't & #39; quite recover. HD made some adjustments, and we just couldn't & #39;t stop
them. On the flip side, we look forward to seeing them again this season!”
This loss brings the Patriots’ record to 1-2 as they start the season.
