Two Student Teachers in Leigh Elementary This Fall

Leigh Community School is excited to have two student teachers this year. We welcome Ms. Abby Kapels and Ms. Kennedy Howard this year as student teachers in the elementary school.

Abby Kapels is a student teacher in the first grade for Mrs. Kim Bruhn.  She grew up near Creston and attended high school at Lakeview High School in Columbus. Her parents are Brad and Chris Kapels and she also has two older brothers.

In high school she participated in volleyball, basketball, FFA, FBLA as well as being active in her church’s youth program.

She is currently attending college at Wayne state, and pursuing a degree in Elementary Education. Upon getting her bachelor’s degree, she wants to continue her education for Speech Therapy.

Outside of school she likes hanging out with friends and family.

Kennedy Howard grew up in Madison and attended high school at St. Francis High School in Humphrey. She is teaching with Mrs. Michkayla Wietfeld in the Kindergarten classroom.

In high school she was involved in volleyball, track, one act, choir, student council. FBLA, speech, as well as smaller clubs that her school offered. Right now, she is attending Wayne State College and will be graduating with her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Inclusive, which is a teacher for children from birth to 3rd grade. Along with that she plans to obtain a supplemental endorsement in reading and writing PK-6.

Kennedy’s parents are Tim and Melissa Howard.  She has 6 siblings: two older sisters, one younger sister, and three younger brothers.

Outside of school she loves spending time with her family and friends.

The Kindergarteners and first graders are excited and lucky to have Ms. Kapels and Ms. Howard with them this school year!
