Leigh Eighth Graders Tour Area Colleges
Even though they are only 14 years old, it is not too early for the eighth-grade students of Leigh High School to begin thinking about their futures.
On November 27, the Leigh 8th graders had the opportunity to visit two different college campuses in the same day: Northeast Community College in Norfolk and Wayne State College in Wayne.
Students were able to meet with college representatives, view the dorms of both campuses, and even eat lunch on campus.
They also learned about many different career options they can pursue with both a 2-year and a 4-year degree.
At Wayne State College, the trip even included a visit to the planetarium.
Leigh High School guidance counselor Mrs. Karen Hillen, accompanied the eighth-grade students on the trip.
“The 8th grade college visit to Northeast Community College and Wayne State College was made available through a grant from the Nebraska Education Quest Foundation,” Hillen said. “It was an excellent opportunity for the eighth-grade students to explore the difference between a 2-year community college and a 4-year state college and to learn about what they need to be doing now and in high school to prepare themselves for college and career options.”
All of the students said they had a great time, and hope to know more about what college has to offer in the future.
