17 students from both Clarkson and Leigh recently attended the Nebraska Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America District 5 STAR Events Competition. This annual event was held at High Plains Community Schools in Polk, Nebraska on Wednesday, February 6 and featured nearly 200 students from the area.

Competitions in FCCLA are called STAR Events: Students Taking Action with Recognition. STAR Events recognize members for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation. STAR Events offer individual skill development and application of learning through cooperative, individualized, and competitive activities. District 5 hosted 25 events with 44 categories during the conference.

Students are evaluated by judges using a rubric system and have the opportunity to earn a Gold, Silver or Bronze rating.

The Leigh-Clarkson FCCLA chapter had 10 students qualify in 4 events for the State STAR competition!  To qualify, you must be one of the top two teams in your category.

Our students received the following rating in their respective categories: National Programs in Action: Alicia Holmberg, Silver; Focus on Children: Emily Loseke, Silver; Illustrated Talk: Abbi Brabec, Natalie Brabec, and Bailie Graybil, Silver; Illustrated Talk: Tanyn Larson, Jessica Hoffman, Silver; Environmental Ambassador: Taylor Larson, Payje Rayback, Silver, State Qualifier; Chapter Service Project Display: Reagan Settje, Cassidy Hoffman, and Ashlynn Novotny, Silver, State Qualifier; Chapter Service Project Portfolio: Kayden Schumacher, Madisyn Pelan, and Bailey Lemburg, Silver, State Qualifier; Interpersonal Communications: Mitchel Beeson and Paige Moore, Gold, State Qualifier.
