COVID-19/ARP ESSER III

The American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ARP ESSER) Fund under the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act of 2021, Public Law 117-2, enacted on March 11, 2021. ARP ESSER provides a total of nearly $122 billion to States and school districts to help safely reopen and sustain the safe operation of schools and address the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the nation’s students. In addition to ARP ESSER, the ARP Act includes $3 billion for special education, $850 million for the Outlying Areas, $2.75 billion to support non-public schools, and additional funding for homeless children and youth, Tribal educational agencies, Native Hawaiians, and Alaska Natives.

Leigh Community Schools crafted a "Return to School" plan for the 2020-2021 school year.  The plan was made available on the school's Facebook Page as well as the school's website.

As we transition to the 2021-2022 school year and beyond, Leigh Community Schools will continue to update its plan, protocols, and seek to address any needs replaced to, or associated with, the COVID-19 pandemic in collaboration with its school community.  The original plan will remain intact and "addendums" to the plan for subsequent school years will be added to reflect changing circumstances and guidance.

Leigh Community Schools intends to use federal ARP ESSER resources in accordance with the established parameters and to the other allowable uses.  Below are links to the Return to School Plan and a corresponding survey for you to provide your feedback on the plan and the use of ARP ESSER III funds.

Leigh Community Schools will receive $160,302  ARP/ESSER III resources.  Twenty percent (20%) $32,060.40  must be used for student learning loss due to the pandemic.  This will leave a balance of $128,241.60 for other projects.  These funds are restricted in use from the Federal Government and will not affect the local levy.

Federally Approved Uses of ARP-ESSER III Funds

  • Twenty (20%) to address student learning loss due to the pandemic
  • Purchasing supplies to sanitize and clean the facilities
  • Improving indoor air quality
  • Purchasing educational technology
