“Students of the Month” Honored

Every month Leigh High School honors three “Students of the Month” that teachers nominate and then the whole staff votes on. In September, the three winning recipients were Izzy Hollatz, Macy Clausen, and Carter Timm.

The first recipient is junior Izzy Hollatz. Izzy is the daughter of Willie and Kylie Hollatz. Izzy’s grandparents are Dave and Joan Hollatz and Jim and Lanette Bathen.

Izzy has been involved in many activities throughout high school, including volleyball, basketball, track, dance team, FCCLA, FBLA, One Act, National Honor Society, Yearbook, and Journalism.

Her favorite hobbies are playing sports and spending time with friends and family. Her favorite subject is FCS.

After high school she plans on going into nursing.

Izzy has won this award four times in previous years and had this to say about winning again: “I am very excited that the teachers have been able to notice my hard work this year, and it feels amazing to be able to win Student of the Month!”

Izzy’s nominating teacher said, “Izzy is an outstanding student, leader and extremely hard worker. She excels in the classroom and in her extracurriculars. She was one of the National FCCLA STAR champions over the summer as well.

The second recipient is senior Macy Clausen. Macy is the daughter of Heath and Michele Clausen. She is the granddaughter of Larry and the late Vickie Wietfeld, Bonnie Johannes Fairburn from Leigh, and Jr. and Kathy Clausen from Norfolk.

Macy is involved in dance team, FCCLA, FFA, YAC, journalism, yearbook, One Act, and National Honor Society.

Her hobbies are helping teach dance classes at Steps at Tiffany’s in Clarkson, hanging out with friends and family, and shopping. Her favorite classes are FCS classes. She loves learning basic things she's going to need in her future such as cooking, cleaning skills, and parenting skills.

She plans to attend College of Hair Design in Lincoln and get both her cosmetology and esthetic degree. Macy hopes to further her knowledge by working at a salon and hopefully one day open up a salon of her own.

Macy has won this award one other time, the first month in her seventh grade year. This is what she had to say about winning again: “I feel very honored to have received Student of the Month this month. I haven’t received Student of the Month in quite some time and knowing that i have been working hard the past couple of years, and seeing that teachers notice it too, it feels very rewarding.”

Macy’s nominating teacher said, “Macy is such a positive, happy person. She is always working, and has become a leader with One Act, Dance Team, Yearbook, and more. She has really been a positive leader to all students in our school this year.”

The third recipient is senior Carter Timm. He is the great grandson of Susan and Roger Fox. He participates in One-Act.

His favorite subject is weights and he enjoys being Mr. Cash’s elementary PE aide. His hobbies include working, going out, sleeping, and gaming.

Carter plans on going to UNO if he decides to attend college. If he were to choose anything to be later on it would be an astronaut. This was his first time winning this award. “This almost doesn’t feel real, but it feels good at the same time,” Carter said.

Carter’s nominating teacher said, “He has really matured a lot in the past few years. He has good grades in his classes, and he has been really positive this year.  He also does an awesome with the elementary kids in PE when he aids for Mr. Cash.”

Congratulations to this month’s winners!
