Senior Spotlight: Pheobe Glissman-Mayner

On August 4th, 2006, in Omaha, Nebraska, Lisa Glissman-Mayner and James Mayner, were blessed with the birth of their second child, Pheobe Michelle Glissman-Mayner.

Pheobe has two siblings, Derek Glissman-Mayner who is 20 years old, and Mia Glissman-Mayner, who is 15 and a sophomore at Leigh.

Pheobe’s grandparents are Christy Glissman of Pender, Robert Glissman of Valley, Deb Prenzlin of Fremont, the late Glenn Carstens, and the late James Mayner. To complete Pheobe’s family, she has two pets. Shadow is a 2-year-old Husky, and Zulu is an orange tabby cat.

Pheobe has been involved in many activities during her high school years. She was involved in volleyball, yearbook, FBLA, quiz bowl, and bowling for one year; band and National Honor Society for two years; speech team for three years; and choir and One-Act for four years. Pheobe’s favorite class in school is any FCS class. Outside of school you can find Pheobe reading, roller-blading, sleeping, shopping, or hanging out with her friends and family.

Pheobe claims her proudest high school accomplishment is deciding to join the speech team, and later finding out how much she loves it. Her favorite high school memory is sitting unsupervised in CNA class with Tanyn, Cassi, and Gracie. She and her classmates had taken the mannequins out of the bed, and when they put one back on the bed very aggressively, the fire alarm went off. At first Pheobe and her friends didn’t realized it was the fire alarm.  Instead, they thought it was an alarm from putting the mannequin down so harshly.

Pheobe’s favorite television show is Full House, and her two favorite songs are “And to Those I Love”, and “Thanks for Sticking Around”, both by $uicide Boy$. She also loves the Shatter Me book series. Her favorite sports team is the Michigan Wolverines and her favorite food to eat is spaghetti and meatballs. Her favorite restaurant to eat at is Fazoli’s. If Pheobe could travel anywhere in the world, she would travel to Iceland. She would want to go to see the Northern Lights, and experience their food and landscape.

When asked what three words to best describe herself, she claims she is loyal, hardworking, and brutally honest. Pheobe’s biggest pet peeve is when people chew with their mouth open and her biggest bad habit is biting at her nails. If Pheobe won the lottery, she would give some money to family and friends, and then put the rest in her savings account.

On Pheobe’s bucket list, she hopes to go skydiving, see the Northern Lights, and build her dream house. The person Pheobe admires most is her dad. She admires him most because although he is diabetic and disabled, and has many setbacks in life, he has still done so much in life and has always been there for her. Pheobe also states that her dad is the reason she is going into nursing. She says he has always spoken highly of nurses.

After high school, Pheobe plans to attend Creighton University for nursing. Some day she plans to become a neonatal nurse. In 10-15 years, Pheobe hopes to be married with kids, living in a big house, and having her dream job.

Pheobe’s advice to underclassmen is to try new things because you never know what you’ll end up enjoying. We wish Pheobe the best of luck with her future endeavors!
