FFA Members Learn New Technology Firsthand

On September 7th, the Leigh FFA Chapter took their members to visit Chuck and Sue Folken’s Rain360 irrigation system being used on their farm.

This Rain360 system is the first of its kind in the whole state of Nebraska. An engineer who worked on the project from start to finish was even on site to talk to the students and answer questions.

The irrigation system puts water directly onto the roots of the crop. The system is designed to save water. By putting water directly onto the roots, you don’t lose water from when it comes out of the system to when it is absorbed into the plant. With Rain 360 Folkens have used much less water than a traditional pivot.

7-12 Principal Mr. Faltys said, “I thought it was a great experience for our students to see the Rain360. Folken Feedyards was nice enough to let us come out and check out their new irrigation system. It is fascinating how far technology has come, especially so close to home.”

Junior Jared Olson said, “The Rain360 was very interesting and I think it could go a long ways for American agriculture.”
